Interested in Playing In College?
Updated:12/30/2008
Players who are serious about playing in college, There is a process and work you should be doing:
Rising Juniors and Seniors:
1. Identify the schools you are interested in. Think about majors you want, the school size, location, prestige, level of lacrosse play, whether you want to play right away or try for a top notch school where you will have to earn your way on the squad.
2. Make a player profile sheet and interest letter to send off to coaches including your vital lacrosse and school stats: GPA, SAT Scores, Extracurrilar Activities, Height, Weight, Experience, Goals, Assists, GBs, Awards, Etc. In the letter let coaches know why you think their team and college are right for you. Also include what you are doing for the summer (tournaments you are playing in, camps you are attending, etc.).
3. Visit the colleges you are most interested in. Some colleges have specific visit days in the fall and winter where you can meet the coach and players to see what you think. Make sure to let the coach know when you are visiting.
4. Include a wide range of schools, donīt put all your eggs in one basket. Outside of Div. I schools most college coaches have limited time and resources to recruit players. If you donīt hear back from your dream school it may be because the coaches time is limited.
5. Get your high school and travel team coaches involved. They can write emails and letters on your behalf.
6. If there is a specific school you have in mind attend their summer camp or find out what camps that coach will be at.
